shrewd assessment
Okay...it's a low budget, black/white, sci fi....and I love this kind of stuff; so I can forgive a lot about this movie. The acting was fair, the scenery was kind of foreboding, and I remember when I was young, there was even some anticipation of the revealing of the "monsters". How disappointing it was when the "shrews" first appeared. I kept wanting to say "here doggy...nice doggy!!! There were no terrifying mutants...just dogs in some of the worst makeup jobs I have ever seen. It almost spoiled the whole movie for me, even when I was a kid.

James Best at his best?
Probably not, but he's the most solid actor in the film. It's from the same director who brought you "The Giant Gila Monster," so you know what you're getting. The unintentionally hilarious part of the film is that most of the characters spend their time drinking booze while not being attacked by the giant shrews. They should all be sloshed by the third reel.
